Chapter Seven 

Every weekend I invited Charlotte over. That invitation always lasted the whole weekend, as always, but unlike the other weeks where she stayed all weekend, this time she stayed only 2 out of the 3 days. 

Charlotte comes to my house right after school. Every Friday she has a free period at the end of the day and goes home to get her sleeping bag and clothes. 

The moment we got into my room, the sparkle in her eyes that she had had all day finally came out. 

“Danielle! I had the best idea ever!” She squealed, “ you know how we are graduating high school next year, well, I thought that you should try to get into Gogenschmere.”

When she said it like that, it sounded almost easy. But I knew from experience that it was NOT.

“ Noway. Never in a million years. Nu-uh. Never going to happen. And in case you didn’t get the message, NO.”

“Come on, just hear me out okay? So the next time I go to visit my uncle, I’ll sneak into his office to get a test, the admission test. Okay, you following? So I get the test and I bring it back here okay? The test will help you study. Then you apply for the college and ask to take the test from home. You then send it in to be graded, I’m certain that you will get the highest score and it will be on the news. They’ll invite you on the news to be accepted into the school, and then you reveal that you’re a girl. Boom, brilliant right?

“ Sure and you’ll think that I’ll even be Allowed to accept? No way, they never let me do that.” I said poking holes in her plan

“ Aw come on, you won’t even try?”

“ I never said I wouldn’t try, it’s just that it will never work!” 

“ Fine,” she said, almost sounding defeated. “But you’ll still try it?”

“Alright, but I can’t wait to say ‘I TOLD YOU SO!”’

Chapter Eight 

Over the summer break Charlotte was gone a lot. She kept on going to Gogenschmere to visit her, claiming she had to become known around campus . 

She finally came back in the last week of summer vaca. She came into my room gasping for breath and exclaimed “I got it! I got it!” 

Jumping up to see it, I told her to shush.

“Let me see it,” I said. She handed it to me. 50 questions long the test covered every subject. From sports to science, everything was there. I let out a low whistle,”Man this is, just wow.” 10 subjects, 5 questions for each. Math, English, Social Studies, Language, Science, Grammar, Engineering, Computer Science, Music, and History.

“ If this is the test, I better get studying.”

After what feels like years of studying, I finally felt ready. As the school year came to an end, I applied for Gogenschmere. The form was simple. It didn’t even have a gender choice. What town do you live in, what do you want to be when you grow up and do you want to take the test at home or at the college. I can imagine that most people want to go to the college but not me.

When my test arrived Charlotte read the instructions to me, and I started. The butterflies in my stomach calmed down after I saw that this test was somewhat the same thing that I had practiced with. 

You got an hour to complete this test but when I  took this test, it felt like I had only been working on it for 5 minutes when Charlotte came in.(I guess I can answer 50 questions in 5 minutes)

“You’re done!” She said with a smile.” By the way, I don’t think he’ll recognize you with these gorgeous auburn locks! The thing that stood out the most was your hair by far.”

“Hey I’m still a girl, no way will he let me attend his school.”
